My Story – Catherine Thorpe DFSH, BA (hons) QTS, MAFSH, MNCH

Hello! I’m Catherine – a mum of two boys from Leeds, UK.  As a former primary school teacher with 12 years’ experience across the primary age range, I suddenly found myself as a mum to 2 boys under 2.  I had had severe endometriosis previously which had resulted in complex surgery and the need for IVF to conceive.  The combination of this and then a wild 2-year-old and newborn in the mix overwhelmed me and I experienced post-natal anxiety. Having tried several different therapies without success, I discovered solution focused hypnotherapy through a friend who was training to become a hypnotherapist. It changed my life.  I was able to enjoy my life again, love the precious moments with the boys growing up and not become overwhelmed by the mum guilt, chaos and noise of life as a new mum.

 
I wanted to pass this life changing solution on to others by training as a hypnotherapist myself. This is the story behind Phoenix Rising – an online practice that’s not limited by location. 

What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?

Solution Focused hypnotherapy is a relaxing form of therapy where you, the client, are in control.  You decide your goals and the emotions you want to feel in each situation. Instead of focusing on the problems you are facing, we train your mind to look for the good in every day and work towards the solutions and the away you want things to be.

Hypnotherapy for Teenagers and Children

As a former Primary school teacher and mum of 2 young boys, I have a passion for improving young people’s mental health.  Kids and teenagers often have a full stress bucket. Their every move is often controlled by the world around them (when they eat, what they eat, when they go to sleep, when they can see their friends etc). They can also struggle with anxiety or stress around school and extracurricular activities, which can affect sleep, self-esteem, or confidence.  This can come out in so many ways, from the shy and withdrawn child to the child who lacks focus, is unable to sleep or refuses the leave the house. Hypnotherapy is suitable for children as young as 8. It is gentle, uplifting, and positive.

 

I work with children towards overcoming fears, building confidence, developing focus and control, easing stress that can be caused by many aspects of life. 


Self-confidence is a common struggle for many teenagers. With hypnotherapy, we work through issues such as comparison with others, and how to find confidence within yourself.
